Cool New Survival Gear For Summer 2014 5.00/5 (100.00%) 1 vote

1291With the summer camping season approaching, vendors are racing to release their new lines of camping, hunting, hiking, fishing, and survival equipment. With everything from hydration packs to GPS trackers and survival stoves, Team AR-15 has looked at a huge range of new products in order to find and feature the best of the best. Take a close look, you might want some of this cool new survival gear for your pack or bugout bag.

SPOT Trace

When it comes to keeping a close eye on your equipment, SPOT trace is the best of the best. This new product, which does require a paid yearly subscription, allows you to quickly and conveniently track your gear with GPS. Anything you can strap, stick, or hide the SPOT trace on will be trackable in real time using your computer or smartphone. This particular GPS tracker uses the popular Google Maps interface in order to make your lost gear easy to locate and recover. It’s an entirely passive system with a waterproof design and a rechargeable, long-life battery that doesn’t need wired in to an electrical source in order to relay it’s position to the SPOT trace servers and your computer.

Nite Ize Inova STS Headlamp

The Nite Ize headlamp from Inova is a huge step-up for affordable headlamps. It uses ultra-bright custom LEDs in order to make the most of it’s slim and light AAA battery pack. Not only does this headlamp run for hours, it also features an adjustable multi-mode slide that controls whether the light is off, on with brilliant white light, or running in red light mode to preserve and protect your nightvision. Inova’s slide-style switch is a huge improvement over one-button controls which force the user to cycle through every available mode in order to get the light they need. The Nite Ize is also adjustable in multiple ways, with both the forehead strap and the angle of the light able to be easily changed to fit users of every height and hat size.

BioLite Camp Stove

The BioLite camp stove is another product that recognized the fact that smartphones and handheld GPS receivers are seen as necessary gear for a lot of hikers, hunters, shooters, and survivalists. This stove uses the popular “rocket” design to generate an intensely hot flame from whatever fuel is available. The secret of the stove is an ultra-high airflow design that makes the most out of every stick and twig, generating less smoke and burning every bit of flammable material you feed into it. What really sets the BioLite Camp Stove apart from other portable rocket stoves, though, is the fact that the BioLite uses waste heat to drive a DC generator with an inline storage battery. You’ll be able to charge up your GPS or cell phone while you make dinner or keep warm with this innovative new camp cooker.

Jetflow Hydration Packs

Jetflow has brought something new to the table when it comes to hydration packs. Instead of relying on a thin, refillable bladder to hold your liquids, they’ve instead hooked their mouthpiece to a universal threaded adapter. Not only does this eliminate the problem of repairing or replacing leaky bladders, it also makes it easier than ever to refill the system. The adapter works with everything from 1L nalgene or aluminum bottles to store-bought bottled water and Gatorade.

Goal Zero RockOut 2 Solar Portable Speaker

rechargeable speakers

You might not need music to survive, but if you want to have a good time around the campfire it never hurts to bring along the stereo. The RockOut 2 system from Goal Zero is a huge departure from those old hand-cranked emergency radios, with a slick solar panel recharger and long-life lithium-ion batteries. This portable speaker system plugs into your smartphone, MP3 player, or any other Bluetooth enabled music device in order to crank out the tunes louder and longer than you might expect from such a small package.  In addition to the speakers themselves, the solar charger will top off your MP3 player or phone phone battery as well, so you can keep the music coming night after night.

Smith Optics ChromaPop Sunglasses

smith optics chromaPOP glassesSmith Optics have consistently made some of the highest-quality polarized outdoor glasses, but their new ChromaPOP system is raising the bar even higher. This new polarization technology makes it easier than ever for fishermen to see through the water with true-to-life color, thanks to it’s ability to block certain wavelengths of light. Smith claims that their system helps you to see shapes and colors more easily in low-light conditions, helping fish and game to stand out from the shadows.
