It’s a stroke of luck that saved a 30 year old Texas mother Tuesday, where the quick thinking of an armed stranger helped prevent a mugging and potential injury.

The Texan mother was dragged across a shopping center parking lot while holding on tightly to her purse after two suspects in a vehicle attempted to steal it.

The stranger, who was armed, stopped the attempted mugging and forced them lie prostrate while they waited on law enforcement to arrive.

“The lady opens her car door, grabs the woman’s purse and they reverse.  While they’re trying to reverse, the lady is holding on to her purse still, chasing them all the way to the middle.  And that good Samaritan came out, drew his weapon and scared them.  And that’s when he pulled them out of the car,” Brenda Vasquez, who witnessed the event, told KHOU-TV in a statement.

The suspects, identified as Shamarion Diana Brooks and Jesse Leroy Grace, were arrested by the Houston Police Department and are being charged robbery by threat in addition to charges of felony possession of an unlawful substance and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for Brooks and Grace respectively.

The identity of the mother and the man who saved the day has not been revealed, with Houston police citing the potential need for the man to serve as a witness in Brooks and Grace’s case.

In a statement given to The Blaze, police spokesman John Cannon said, “The citizen did what he thought was right at the time.  In some instances, witnesses do that and other times they play it safer and just get good descriptions.”

The man’s firearm was inspected by police and promptly given back to the owner, who bought his own children some candy and drove away.

Thankfully, no one was injured during the altercation despite the best efforts of the muggers.
